Our Mission

It is the mission at Alternative Homes for Youth (AHFY) to teach, support and model healthy life skills to youth and families by providing therapeutic and educational interventions to end violence. To meet our mission, we concentrate on:

  • Providing therapeutic treatment to address mental health issues
  • Effectively teaching each youth how to make positive, healthy choices
  •  Providing competent education, treatment, and support, for safe and successful reintegration with family/community.
  • Effectively teaching each family how to have healthy relationships

Thirty-one years young, Alternative Homes for Youth (AHFY) concentrates its energies on preventing future victims of violence and teaching our Colorado families how to be safe and healthy, functional members of our community. AHFY is a not-for-profit state-licensed mental health treatment organization dedicated to helping youth and their families find new hope and opportunity. The youth that we work with have all experienced extensive trauma in their lives, ranging from sexual and physical abuse to neglect and abandonment. Many of these youth were frequent witnesses to their parents’ substance abuse and/or domestic violence. Staff and residents work as a team to build self-esteem, positive attitudes, trusting relationships and responsible decision-making.

AHFY is a violence and victim prevention program, working with the community from a variety of angles. We have a mentoring and tracking program for adolescents involved with the Division of Youth Corrections. We conduct community-based therapy, as well as in-home therapy. On a residential level, we have a treatment center for youth who have been sexually abused or abusive. We also provide independent living/emancipation services and opportunities.

As a non-profit agency, we can not successfully meet our mission without the support of our fellow community members.   If you are interested in supporting the intervention and prevention of violence in your community, visit: http://www.ahfy.org/support.htm

Thank you very much for visiting our web page.  And thank you for joining us as we all work together for a safer, healthier community for us all!
